Chicken puttu

>> Sunday, July 18, 2010

Those were the days in India, where we can have sura puttu or shark puttu whenever we wish to have. But here, where to go and hunt for shark.. :D So to make up for the shark puttu, comes the chicken puttu.. :) It's a simple recipe made using roughly ground chicken. I would not call it chicken kheema, because the consistency of the ground chicken is much finer than that of a kheema.

Things needed
Chicken breast - 3 Pieces
Onion - 1 no. Large sized ( Chopped)
Tomato - 1 no. Medium sized ( Chopped)
Green chilly - 2 nos.
Coriander seeds/ Dhaniya - 1 Tsp
Saunf/ Fennel seeds - 1 Tbsp
Ginger - 1 inch sized piece
Garlic pearls - 5 nos.
Jeera/ Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
Tumeric powder - 1 Tsp
Garam masala powder - 1 Tsp
Cinnamon stick - 1 small piece
Cloves - 2 nos.
Salt - To taste
Oil - 1 Tbsp
Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, tumeric powder, cinnamon, cloves and wait for the seeds to sizzle. Add onion, tomatoes and cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
Meanwhile boil the chicken pieces with little salt until soft.
Blend ginger, garlic, green chilly, coriander seeds, fennel seeds and boiled chicken pieces into a rough chicken paste.
Add this ground chicken to the pan and fry until the raw masala smell leaves the mixture. This will take up to 10 - 15 minutes. Finally add garam masala powder and finish it off with coriander leaves.
Simple spicy chicken puttu is ready to be served with rice or chapathi. Chicken puttu with rice and a spoon of ghee makes yummy chicken puttu sadam.
