Cabbage Mullangi Poriyal/ Cabbage Radish poriyal

>> Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Thinking for simple side dish to go with sambar rice, kuzhambu sadam or even curd rice... Here comes the simple and delicious cabbage radish poriyal. I was just left out with some chopped cabbage and radish in my fridge. So I just grabbed them both and made a simple poriyal to go with the sambar rice.

Things needed
Cabbage- 2 Cups ( Cleaned and chopped)
Radish - 1 no. medium sized ( Finely chopped)
Garlic ginger paste - 1 Tsp
Dry red chilly - 1 no.
Mustard seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Jeera/ Cumin seeds - 1 Tsp
Black pepper powder - 1/2 Tsp
Tumeric powder - a pinch
Salt - To taste
Oil - 1 Tsp
Coriander leaves/ Cilantro - For garnishing

Heat oil in a pan.  Add mustard, cumin seeds, red chilly, tumeric, ginger garlic paste and fry until the raw flavor of garlic vanishes. Add cabbage, radish, salt, pepper powder and cook covered for 15 minutes. Simple and quick poriyal is ready to be enjoyed.
For non vegetarian version of the same poriyal, we can try adding egg or prawns to it and it will taste great. This goes to Suma's Side dishes from India event
