Tangy Tomato Chutney/ Thakkali Thokku

>> Monday, October 4, 2010

This is a simple chutney that can be made in few minutes to be a good combo with idli or dosa. Few people make this chutney just with tomatoes. But I have also added some onions to give in extra flavors.

Things needed
Tomato - 1 no. Large sized ( Coarsely ground)
Onion - 1 no. Medium sized ( Finely chopped)
Cumin seeds/ Jeera - 1 Tsp
Mustard seeds/ Kadugu - 1/2 Tsp
Hing - a pinch
Lemon juice - 1/2 Tsp ( Optional, for extra tanginess)
Dry red chilly - 2 nos.
Red chilly powder - 1/2 Tbsp
Coriander powder - 1 Tsp
Tumeric powder - a pinch
Garlic pearls - 3 nos. ( Roughly chopped)
Oil - 1 Tsp
Cilantro - For garnishing

Heat oil in a pan, add cumin seeds, mustard, hing, dry red chilly, tumeric and let the seeds sizzle. Add garlic and fry till golden brown. Then add in onions, tomatoes and cook until the tomatoes turn mushy. Add chilly powder, coriander powder and cook until oil oozes out the mixture. Finally finish with lemon juice and cilantro leaves.

Hot and tangy tomato chutney is ready to be served. This tangy goes to Jagruti's Complete my Thali event
