>> Monday, November 29, 2010

Hi all.. Its long since I posted my recipes here. My kid is keeping me really busy these days and just trying to get back to the blogging routine. Also I was unable to visit any of your blogs and I looking at my dashboard its like I have so many yummy recipes.. Hope to catch up with you all sooner. Today I am here with the recipe for Kung Pao chicken. This is one our favorite Chinese chicken dish.. Whenever we go to Panda express, one of our entree will be kung pao chicken. I wanted to try this recipe at home and did a google search. I landed up with this blogchef.net site and it said that the recipe is almost a copy cat of Panda express recipe.

Hyderabadi Chicken Briyani

>> Tuesday, September 28, 2010

I usually make briyani in pressure cooker and follow my mom's recipe. My hubby also likes my briyani recipe and we make briyani once in a month usually on Sunday. But this time he wanted me to make the Hyderabadi style of briyani. So I made the Hyderabadi chicken briyani for our Sunday lunch. I have made this briyani many times and few times it has turned out perfect. That's because it sometimes made mistakes by overcooking rice. So this time I didn't want to repeat the same flaws and to my surprise.. It was a happy plate of steaming hot Hyderabadi briyani which we enjoyed with spicy prawn curry.

Spicy Prawns in Coconut Curry

>> Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Here is a spicy prawn curry which is an intermediate between kuzhambhu and kuruma recipe. This recipe uses less coconut but still is a rich gravy with almonds added to it. This gravy will taste great with briyani, pulav, rice or chapathi. Same recipe can be used for chicken, mutton or even potato curry.

Simple Spicy Chicken Kuzhambhu/Chicken Curry

>> Tuesday, August 31, 2010

This is one of my hubby's favorite non vegetarian side dish. Sunday morning breakfast will usually be either chicken curry with hot idlis or dosa and chicken soup combo.. :) The traditional way of making this chicken kuzhambu needs roasting of onions, grinding and stuff like that. But when I am lazy to do all that, I use this quick version of it... ;) Just a can of hot Mexican tomato sauce would do the magic. My hubby doesn't know about this secret and he still thinks that I make the kuzhambu in the traditional manner.. :D

Turkey Cabbage Kheema Curry

>> Thursday, August 19, 2010

I usually make the kheema curry whenever we buy turkey. But this time I tried some turkey pakodas and had some left over turkey meat in the freezer. This was not sufficient enough for our lunch. So I decided to add some filler to the meat and make it up for our lunch pate.. ;) So came the turkey cabbage kheema curry. Here I have used purple cabbage, but the recipe can be adapted with normal cabbage too.

Simple Spicy Chilly Chicken (Dry without gravy)

>> Sunday, August 8, 2010

This is my version of the Chinese chilly chicken. I have not deep fried the chicken and also have used skinless breast pieces. I would call it a healthier version of chilly chicken without compensating for the taste and flavor. It goes well with fried rice, noodles and pulavs.

Fish bhajji/ Fried fish

>> Saturday, August 7, 2010

This is my first fish recipe. Its a simple and delicious crispy fried fish that makes a great combo with sambar, rasam or curd rice. It also serves as a good starter by itself just with ketchup. I have used white pomfret fish which is commonly know as Vavval meenu in Tamil. This recipe can be used with any kind of fish and requires a  marination time of just 15 minutes.

Drumstick Eggplant Prawn curry/ Murungakai kathirikai eral kuzhambhu

>> Wednesday, August 4, 2010

This is my mom's simple kuzhambhu recipe. I make this combo curry, when ever I could find good drumsticks here. The curry is dominated by the flavors of fresh ginger added to it. Adding raw mango to the curry will also make it taste great.

Chicken puttu

>> Sunday, July 18, 2010

Those were the days in India, where we can have sura puttu or shark puttu whenever we wish to have. But here, where to go and hunt for shark.. :D So to make up for the shark puttu, comes the chicken puttu.. :) It's a simple recipe made using roughly ground chicken. I would not call it chicken kheema, because the consistency of the ground chicken is much finer than that of a kheema.

>> Tuesday, July 13, 2010

This is one of the simplest and yummy side dish that could be made with dry shrimp which is commonly know as Sennaguni/ Chennaigunni in Tamil. The combo of plantain with dry shrimp works great. Its one of my mom's recipe, which is my dad's favorite too. Same recipe can be adopted with other vegetables like bottle gourd, beans, chayote (chow-chow in Tamil) and brinjal/egg plant.

This is one of my hubby's favorite non-vegetarian dish, which he loves to enjoy with rasam rice. He usually loves it spicy, and I have used bit more of pepper seeds for him, so do adjust the spiciness for your taste. This is one of the recipes I got from my mom-in-law.

Peas Radish Shrimp fry/ Mullangi Pattani Eral varuval

>> Sunday, June 27, 2010

This is a simple side dish I made for yesterday's dinner. The combo of radish with peas and shrimp worked out really well. I just tried to add peas to my usually mullangi eral recipe, that turned out to be good with additional flavor and mild crunch from peas.

Turkey Kheema

>> Wednesday, June 2, 2010

This week's shopping bag came with a pack of ground turkey meat got by my hubby in the sale. He usually loves mutton kheema, but poor guy substitutes it with turkey as we don't get ground mutton/lamb here in San Diego. Today's menu was spicy turkey kheema and we enjoyed it for dinner in the form of yummy kheema dosas.. :)
