Spicy Plum Jam

>> Tuesday, March 1, 2011

I got some red plums last week from the farmer's market. It was not that sweet. So I decided to make it into a jam. Then thought of adding some spiciness to it and it turned into a great spicy jam/ chutney. The preserve was really great and we enjoy it with bread or chapathi. Me enjoyed the jam with dosa and also used it as a dip for the pretzel sticks.. :) Just with simple ingredients we could make delicious preserve at our home with the fresh fruits.

Things needed
Plum puree - 2 Cup ( I pureed the fruit with skin)
Sugar - 1/2 Cup
Red Chilly powder - 1/4 Tsp

Cumin powder - 1/2 Tsp
Chaat masala - 1/4 Tsp
Lemon juice - 1 Tbsp

Heat plum puree, sugar in a pan and cook the the mixture for about 20 minutes or until it starts to thicken.
Add chilly powder, cumin powder, chaat masala and lemon juice and cook the mixture for another 5 minutes. Yummy spicy plum preserve is ready to be enjoyed.
This goes to Smita's Cooking with fruits event.
