Farsi Puris

>> Wednesday, September 29, 2010

This is the dish I made for Nayna's Flavors of Gujarat event. I got this yummy snack recipe from Kajal's Recipes. Her beautiful presentation and the tempting pics made me try this recipe. My farsi puris turned out really great. These are mini, crispy, spicy puris filled with flavors from cumin and ajwani seeds.

Things needed
All purpose flour - 5 Tbsp
Semolina/ Rava - 1 Tbsp
Oil - 2 Tbsp
Salt - To taste
Oil - For deep frying
Water - To make dough

For masala powder
Cumin seeds/ Jeera - 1 Tsp
Pepper - 1 Tbsp
Ajwani seeds/ Omam/ Carom seeds - 1 Tsp

Make a fine powder of the ingredients listed under 'for masala powder'. Mix flour, semolina, oil, salt, masala powder and knead it into a smooth, soft dough using water. Let the dough rest for about an hour.
Divide the dough into small balls and roll it into thick chapathis. Roll this chapathi into a log.
Cut the log into small pieces. Roll these pieces into a small puri by pressing with your hand.
Heat oil in a pan and deep fry the puris on medium flame until golden brown and crispy. These can also be made into different shapes like squares. These mini puris will be a perfect tea time snack.
